How to identify a problematic component in Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows

To speed up the handling of your request by Kaspersky Technical Support, you can perform diagnostics of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows (hereinafter ‘KES’) by yourself using the flowchart or guides below.
Compare the KES version on managed devices with the version on the download page. If you have the latest version installed, proceed to Step 1. If you have an earlier version, consider upgrading to the latest version:
- Check out the information about the versions 11, 12, limitations and compatibility with Kaspersky Security Center if you are using it.
- If the features and requirements of the latest version are compatible with your environment, try installing the application in a test environment and see if the issue persists in this version.
- If you did not encounter any issues after initial testing, try in-depth testing of this version on managed devices.
- If testing did not reveal any issues, upgrade KES to the latest version.
Step 1. Disable all application components
- Disable all application components and Self-Defense.
- Restart the computer.
- If the issue persists, proceed to Step 2. If the issue is resolved, move on to Step 3.
Step 2. Exit the application
- Exit the application using the guides.
- If the issue persists, proceed to Step 4. If the issue is resolved, move on to Step 5.
Step 3. Enable application components one by one
- Enable one application component and restart KES.
- If the problem does not reoccur, disable the active component and repeat the action above for each disabled component one by one to find the one that causes the issue.
- If you defined the component which caused the issue, write down the name of the component and proceed to Step 5. If the issue is resolved, move on to Step 2.
If the issue is caused by the Web Control or Web Threat Protection components:
- Open KES and go to → General settings → Network settings.
- Select the Do not scan encrypted connections check box.
- Restart KES.
- Check if the issue persists and proceed to Step 5.
Step 4. Disable automatic startup of the application
- Disable automatic startup of the application.
- Restart the computer.
- Go to step 5.
Step 5. Complete the troubleshooting
If the issue persists, use these recommendations and submit a request to Kaspersky Technical Support via Kaspersky CompanyAccount. In your request, specify the name of the component that caused the issue and the step that helped resolve it.
How to enable or disable Self-Defense and the Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows components
Method 1. How to enable or disable Self-Defense and KES components via the application interface
- You can enable and disable Self-Defense using these instructions.
- To enable or disable each component manually:
- Go to the component list in the Settings section.
- Select the component, set the toggle to On or Off position and click Save → Confirm.
- Repeat the action above for each component.

Method 2. How to enable or disable Self-Defense and KES components via Kaspersky Security Center
- To disable Self-Defense:
- Open Kaspersky Security Center and go to Policies node.
- Open the shortcut menu of the KES policy and select Properties.
- In the application settings window, select General settings → Application settings. Clear the Enable Self-Defense check box in the Self-Defense block.
- Click Apply and confirm your changes to the settings in the pop-up window.
- To disable components:
- In the Properties: Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows window, open the Advanced Threat Protection, Essential Threat Protection, Security Controls sections and disable all the included application components.
- Click Apply and confirm the changes.
