Applies to Kaspersky Internet Security

The message "Cannot add a key that expires earlier than the active key as an additional key" might appear during the activation of Kaspersky Internet Security.

The message means that you are trying to add a reserve license for Kaspersky Internet Security that expires earlier than the already installed and currently used license. For example you activated your application with an activation code which expires on January 8, 2012. Sometime later you are trying to activate/ add a reserve license to the application with an activation code which expires on December 8, 2011

See KB8717, to know the license expiry date.

If the activation code, you are trying to add, was purchased to prolong the license, you should contact the provider of this activation code either by e-mail or by phone (as the license validity period was subscribed incorrectly). When contacting the provider give detailed description of the problem with the following information:

  • Owner info: name, surname, e-mail address
  • License inforegistration number of the current license (activation code, key number as given in the figure above), expiry date, where, when and by whom the license was purchased (attach the message about purchase of the license, if you purchased on-line).
  • Information about license prolongation: license number /activation code, expiry date, by whom,, when and where the license prolongation was purchased (attach the message about prolongation of the license, if you purchased on-line).

If the error keeps repeating create a request to Kaspersky Lab Technical Support via the My Kaspersky Account service. Describe your problem in all details.
