How to use Application Manager in Kaspersky Small Office Security 6 to find unwanted applications and block their installation
Using Application Manager in Kaspersky Small Office Security, you can find applications or browser extensions on your computer that are not being used or that were installed without your consent. Such applications and extensions may slow the performance of your computer or change browser settings.
You can block such changes with the Installation Assistant. It performs the following actions:
- Automatically clears the checkboxes for installing additional programs.
- Warns you about attempts to install additional programs.
- Hides installation steps that may contain advertisements or offers to install additional programs.
How to enable Installation Assistant and block the installation of unwanted programs
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click the settings button in the lower-left corner. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
- Go to the Protection section and click Application Manager.
- Use the toggle button on the right to enable a component.
- In the Installation Assistant section, select the appropriate check boxes:
- During installation of applications, automatically clear the check boxes for installation of additional programs. Warn about any attempts to install additional programs.
- Do not display installation steps that may contain advertisements and offers to install additional programs.
Kaspersky Small Office Security will block the installation of unwanted programs, and block the display of ads or offers to install such programs. If you want the additional programs to be installed together with the main application, clear the checkboxes.
How to select the settings for analyzing installed applications and extensions
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click the settings button in the lower-left corner. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
- Go to the Protection section and click Application Manager.
- Select the Analyze installed applications and browser extensions check box.
- Choose one of the options:
- Select categories of objects. Select the categories of applications and browser extensions that need to be analyzed.
- Configure schedule. Specify on which days and at what time to perform an analysis of installed applications and browser extensions.
- Click Save.
Restrictions and limitations of the component
Application Manager works only on the primary drive in Windows and when System Watcher is enabled.
Application Manager tracks and blocks the following modifications to browser settings in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome:
- Changing the home page
- Changing the search engine in your browser
- Changing proxy server settings
- Installing browser extensions
The default set of controlled changes can be expanded when updating the Kaspersky Small Office Security databases.
Application Manager does not block changes or display notifications if the changes are made by the following applications:
- Browser
- Standard tool for modifying browser settings
- Standard Windows tool
- An application incompatible with Kaspersky Small Office Security
- A new version of Kaspersky Small Office Security
