Scanning a computer for threats can use a substantial amount of system resources. To optimize the load on the system, you are able to run scan tasks and database update tasks in Kaspersky Free while the computer is locked or the screensaver is on. Idle Scan helps maintain the security without affecting the computer performance.

If the computer is running on battery power, Kaspersky Free will not run tasks when the computer is idle in order to prolong battery life.

To set tasks to run when the computer is idle:

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Free, click The settings icon in the lower-left corner.

Opening the Kaspersky Free settings.

  1. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
  1. Go to the Performance section.
  2. Select the checkboxes:
    • Postpone computer scan tasks when the CPU and disk systems are at high load
    • Perform Idle Scan

Enabling Idle Scan in Kaspersky Free.

Idle scan and update tasks will be performed according to these settings.
