To reduce the risk of infection by cryptoviruses, the Kaspersky Lab specialists recommend to configure the settings of Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 on your computer as follows.
Configure the rules for the Protected file types category for access of applications with high and low restrictions:
The System Watcher component in Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 collects data about the actions performed by applications on your computer and shares this information with other components for improved protection. Make sure the System Watcher component is enabled configure its settings. If start of a cryptovirus or corresponding activities are detected, Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 terminates the process and the file from which the process was started is quarantined.
Firewall in Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 assigns statuses to all network connections according to packet and network rules and controls them based on the assigned statuses (allows or blocks connections).
Block the Internet access to Low restricted, High restricted, and Untrusted applications using Firewall. This will not allow cryptoviruses receive unique encryption keys from the Internet, therefore they will not be able to encrypt files.
